Cleanup in Malawi
In 2019, we collected plastic and metal scrap for the first time and ended up disposing of 50 bags filled to the brim. The campaign was exhausting, but incredibly motivating. In 2023, Malawi’s president took up this idea and launched a national Clean-Up Day, which has since taken place every third Friday of the month. On July 19, 2024, the Chiuno NGO was once again fully involved. A group from the village made their way to the city, supported by the district, which provided a truck. Three times that day, the truck was completely filled with plastic waste and then driven to the landfill. It is impressive to see how a small local initiative years ago has grown into a nationwide movement and how Chiuno continues to actively contribute to a clean and healthier environment.
