A cross-generational project
for a fair and livable world

Who we are

We are YOOW: Young and Old for One World. The project was founded by Wolfgang Priewe in 2004. Young and old people began to get involved in Sierra Leone. In 2008, our intergenerational project became a non-profit association. YOOW e.V. is a member of the Paritätische (association of social movements). YOOW founder Wolfgang Priewe was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 2009. After ten years in Sierra Leone, we supported young refugees in Berlin from 2015 to 2018. YOOW e.V. has been active in Malawi since 2018.

We want to create a fair and livable world. We are guided by our conviction that intergenerational and intercultural cooperation is essential. Our work primarily serves to empower people. That is why we promote self-determined access to economic, technical, and social resources.

We connect younger and older people on both continents, Africa and Europe, to bring together their respective experiences and knowledge: Young and Old for One World. The cooperation is needs-based and guided by the principles of sustainability and the conservation of climate and environmental resources.

YOOW e.V. pursues three goals:
Project work together with young people and senior citizens as well as intergenerational development policy work on the African continent together with our local partner organisations.

Supporters

YOOW can only function thanks to a broad network of supporters. The projects are financed by grants and donations. We received prominent support from former Federal President Horst Köhler. During a state visit, he presented our partners in Sierra Leone with sewing machines that had previously been refurbished by YOOW. Actor Dieter Pfaff won €20,000 for YOOW e.V. on a quiz show.
