Young and Old for One World: younger and older people who want to work together to create a fair and livable world. We carry out development work on the African continent in close cooperation with local partner organisations.
In Malawi, we are working together with the Chiuno NGO to build the Chiuno Cultural Center, which will include a kindergarten, a primary school, and opportunities for vocational training and medical care.
YOOW was founded in 2004 and, as an association, has successfully implemented projects in Sierra Leone and training programs for young refugees in Berlin since 2008.

Our current project in Malawi
Together with the local Chiuno NGO, we are building the Chiuno Cultural Center. Under construction since 2018, the project is scheduled for completion in 2028. It will offer a kindergarten, a primary school with a library and principal’s office, training workshops especially for women to start their own businesses, a teaching kitchen for healthy eating using home-grown fruit and vegetables, as well as teachers’ houses and an outpatient clinic. The cafeteria serves as a meeting place and venue for cultural events. All buildings are connected to a biological sewage treatment plant and electricity is supplied by a solar power system.

Completed projects
YOOW e.V. was active in Sierra Leone for ten years. The collaboration began with the shipment of sewing machines refurbished in Berlin. This was followed by medical equipment, workshop containers, and an ambulance that had been completely overhauled by trainees. YOOW e.V. also worked with local partners to build a photovoltaic system for a training center, wells, and a maternity clinic.
In Berlin, YOOW e.V. taught young refugees digital skills for education and work, as well as an introduction to programming.
