Our Current Cocus: Malawi
Malawi is a beautiful country of great geological and cultural diversity with a very young population. Situated in the southeast of Africa as a small landlocked country on Lake Malawi, it is one of the poorest countries in the world and ranks 170th (out of 188) on the Human Development Index (HDI). The annual per capita income is US$ 350. Many people are malnourished and have no access to clean water and health care. Kasungu is the capital of a province in central Malawi where child labour in agriculture, especially in tobacco growing, is widespread. Youth unemployment and teenage pregnancies are high, and HIV, alcohol and drug consumption exacerbate the social situation.
